DAYS OF PRIDE – NAYA SAWERAadmin
“Menstruation is the only blood that is not born from violence. Yet, it is the one that disgusts you the most.”DAYS OF PRIDE is a campaign by Naya Sawera driven towards donating sanitary napkins to women who cannot afford them. So far, the campaign has successfully donated 42000 sanitary napkins to women across various regions of Jaipur through their 5 Sanitary Pads Banks. The campaign also spreads awareness about menstrual health and hygiene and tries to overcome menstrual taboos.
Women in most regions of India have been confined behind closed doors, outside of the kitchen; with cotton cloths and period blood. Sanitary napkins have become an unaffordable luxury for most Indian women due to their cost implications and a lack of willingness amongst the families to openly accept the concept of periods and buying products related to it. Days of Pride is a campaign that aims to provide sanitary napkins to women in rural regions of India, and to spread awareness about menstrual health and abolish the taboos associated with the same.
A packet of sanitary napkins under the initiative costs Rs. 20. The donors can donate as many packets as they want by donating in multiples of 20. The awareness about menstruation and importance of sanitary napkins also helps guard the women from any prejudices against menstrual blood and help prevent possible infections. Bringing the topic of menstruation out in the open through sanitary pads gives these women freedom and opportunity to express themselves and bring back the normalcy in their lives during their periods. Days of Pride tries to help women embrace their menstrual cycle as a facilitator of birth and regeneration, which is something to be proud of and not ashamed.
